What are Skin Boosters and do I need them?

The world of Aesthetics is so big right now it can be difficult to know what is good for your skin, what you need and what is going to give you the best results for your concerns. It reminds me a little bit of being in the skincare section in a large chemist store, there is so much on offer but no advise as to what will be best for you.

I am going to give you that advise and hopefully help you to understand how you can get a little bit more savvy in this mind field of treatments.

Firstly, I would say always make sure you are offered a full face to face consultation with your Aesthetics Practitioner. It is important you feel comfortable with them, that they listen to your needs and of course they have all the correct qualifications, insurance and hygiene regulations in place.

So, Skin Boosters, unlike Botox which works on reducing muscle movement that creates static lines in the face, and Dermal Filler which adds volume and plumping …….these bad boys are all about your skin health and rejuvenation, so there won’t be any change in face shape or muscle action. It really is like taking the very best skincare and injecting it exactly where it is needed, sound scary?? This definitely doesn’t need to be when you are in the right hands.

One of the most popular Skin Boosters available is Profhilo this is Hyaluronic Acid (non-cross linked which means it cannot add volume like dermal filler, which is cross linked to give it a more jelly like consistency) this is injected into 10 specific points on the face or neck. Hyaluronic Acid gives intense hydration for glowing skin, fine lines will be minimalised and your skin will appear firmer and more rejuvenated. You need two treatments, four weeks apart for the best results, often you will not see the full results until after your second session. Profhilo is the slightly stingier Skin Booster to receive but as there are only 10 points this is over pretty quickly. The small injection points appear as a little raised bump but this disperses after a short period of time.

The next contender is Polynucleotides……this is a big buzz word right now and rightly so as they are amazing! The great thing about Polynucleotides is the freedom to treat many areas of the face, neck and body and really tackle those areas of skin that are showing signs of ageing. Polynucleotides are derived from Salmon DNA that has a bio stimulating result on the skin by activating growth factors which regenerate collagen and elastin. Helping to smooth fine lines, wrinkles, firmness and radiance. This hydrating treatment has an antioxidant effect and also stimulates fibroblasts and increases metabolic activity. You need two or three treatments, four weeks apart for the best results. Again, like Profhilo it can take a few weeks to see the results while the magic work is happening under the surface of your skin, but it is most definitely worth the wait.

All Skin Boosters are either Hyaluronic acid, Amino Acid or Polynucleotides but will fall under many different brand names.

If you are looking to treat areas where the skin is showing signs of ageing and you want to have a smoother appearance then Skin Boosters are probably for you. You should also consider this treatment to help firm up the often-neglected neck area, you do not want a super smooth face and neck that gives away all your secrets do you?

Taking care of your skin at home is very important and not something that should be overlooked but the power of an injectable treatment will always deliver a far superior result and something that will stay firmly in my treatment plan.
